Following the publication of the new RTCM 13500.1 standard, CML Microcircuits Ltd, a global supplier of Wireless Data solutions, is pleased to announce availability of a new wireless data modem solution supporting the RTCM 13500.1 standard, running on its CMX7364 Multi-mode High Performance Wireless Data Modem. This standard specifies the minimum performance requirements and test criteria for UHF radios used in Real-Time DGNSS applications. Differential GNSS provides enhanced location accuracy and operates between a fixed receiver and mobile unit. The two are connected via a radio link and whilst there are many technologies suitable for the link, licensed UHF wireless bands are popular due to their long range and robustness, as many applications operate in remote locations where WAN networks do not provide coverage or have too great a latency for the application. Until now these radio links have operated using proprietary protocols but a move to standardise the interface has been undertaken by the RTCM (Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services).
Having been active with the RTCM standardisation body over a number of years, CML Micro has been closely involved with the definition of the standard which is intended to bring a common approach to the sharing of Real Time Kinematics data in applications such as Marine, Digital Agriculture, Construction and Mining. This will allow interoperability between different manufacturers’ RTK modems, giving users a wider choice of solutions. The new standard also incorporates enhanced robustness by employing latest error checking and correction techniques and so provides a platform for improved performance such as increased operating range and interference mitigation.
CML Micro is addressing this solution by offering a firmware upgrade to its CMX7364 Multi-mode High Performance Wireless Data Modem, the 7364FI-8. The firmware, referred to as a Function Image™, may be downloaded freely from CML Micro’s website www.cmlmicro.com and is uploaded to the CMX7364 on power up, configuring the modem with appropriate protocol handling and application-specific modem settings. The solution has been developed to simplify modem operation, automating many aspects of data frame construction such that the user simply inputs the data to be transmitted from the host processor over C-BUS, CML’s proprietary SPI-like serial interface. To find out more, please visit the CMX7364 RTCM SC135 Compliant RTK Wireless Modem product page. Supporting the release CML Micro has also introduced a 400-470 MHz band version of their Wireless Data SDR Demonstrator, the DE9941A, to complement the existing 350-400 MHz version which provides a complete demonstration system suitable for use in licensed bands that need to comply with strict regulatory requirements such as EN 300 113. Operation in the 400-470 MHz frequency band covers most countries worldwide: Europe, the Americas and many countries in Asia.
The board features both RF and baseband devices from CML Micro that provide a complete RF modem solution. Due to its software defined radio design the board can be configured to support multiple modulation types and channel bandwidths. When configured via a firmware download, the board will now support data transfers conforming to the newly released RTCM SC135 standard as well as alternative linear modulation solutions.
