Working alongside our GaAs and GaN MMIC design engineers, you’ll gain exposure to the tools, techniques and engineering decisions involved in developing high-frequency semiconductor products.
Depending on your placement, you could:
- Design elements of MMICs for real customer applications
- Use professional RF and microwave simulation and design tools
- Learn about semiconductor fabrication processes and modelling
- Work alongside experienced engineers solving real RF design challenges
- See how a design progresses towards fabrication and evaluation

Develop the system
Systems Engineering – Shepton Mallet
Discover what happens when semiconductor technology meets the real world.
Our Systems Engineering team develops, evaluates and characterises RF and communications solutions, helping turn device capabilities into working systems and applications.
During your placement, you could:
- Use professional RF test equipment, including spectrum analysers, signal generators and VNAs
- Design and develop evaluation platforms using PCBs, hardware and Python-based automation
- Characterise RF and microwave devices
- Analyse real measurement data and investigate device performance
- Learn how engineers take a device from the datasheet to a working communications system
You’ll combine hardware, software, RF and problem-solving to see how technology performs beyond the lab bench.
Put technology to the test
Product Evaluation & Production – Langford, Essex
Get closer to the point where semiconductor designs become real products.
At our Essex headquarters, engineering, evaluation and production come together. You’ll see how new devices are tested, characterised and prepared for manufacture – and gain an understanding of the engineering required to turn silicon into a reliable product.
Depending on your placement, you could:
- Work with automated semiconductor test and measurement systems
- Gain hands-on experience with RF and mixed-signal devices
- Analyse device performance and manufacturing data
- Learn how products are evaluated and qualified
- See first-hand how semiconductor products move from engineering into production
