Looking to start your career in engineering?
At CML Micro, we design and manufacture the building blocks that make modern wireless communication possible; from critical communications and IoT networks to satellite and defence systems. Our internship and summer placement opportunities give aspiring engineers the chance to contribute to real-world innovation while learning from experts at the forefront of semiconductor design.
Whether you’re fascinated by silicon chip design, microwave systems, or advanced compound semiconductors, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and get hands-on experience across live projects.
You won’t just be observing, you’ll be contributing to meaningful work that underpins the future of global connectivity.
Summer Placement Programme

(Applications for our Summer 2025 scheme may be open, or check back soon for future opportunities.)
During your placement at CML Micro, you’ll support active product developments while gaining exposure to the full product lifecycle; from concept and design through to validation and test automation.
Depending on your interests and background, you could be placed in one of the following teams:
Compound Semiconductor Design (CSD) – Cambridge Office
Work with cutting-edge Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) technologies that enable high-frequency, low-noise, and high-power RF performance beyond the limits of silicon.
- Design bespoke Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) for real customer applications.
- Use state-of-the-art fabrication processes and modelling tools.
- Collaborate on front-end designs, power amplifiers, and low-noise circuits for the next generation of communication systems.
Silicon Design – Langford, Essex Office
Ever wondered what makes smartphones, satellites, and connected devices possible? This team designs the circuits that capture, process, and transmit the world’s signals.
- Work at the transistor level using modern RF CMOS and SiGe BiCMOS technologies.
- Learn about analogue, digital, and RF circuit design - from amplifiers to RTL and FPGA work.
- Gain insight into chip layout, verification, and real silicon manufacturing.
- You’ll be encouraged to experiment, problem-solve, and push boundaries, learning how great engineering ideas are turned into working devices.
Systems Engineering – Shepton Mallet, Somerset Office
Join a hands-on environment where you’ll help validate and verify real RF and microwave devices.
- Use lab-grade test equipment such as spectrum analysers, signal generators, and VNAs.
- Design and develop evaluation platforms using PCB hardware and Python-based test automation.
- Learn how device characterisation and data analysis feed into product performance and datasheet development.
Why Join Us
- Gain real project experience within a global semiconductor company.
- Work directly with experienced engineers who love to share knowledge.
- Discover how ideas move from concept to product in one of the UK’s most innovative technology businesses.
- Build the foundation for your career in RF, IC, or systems engineering.
